The Cockroach Janta Party, a political movement that began as a satirical campaign, has declared plans to initiate nationwide protests starting Thursday. The group is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, citing allegations of mismanagement surrounding the administration of competitive examinations.
Abhijit Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, emphasized that if their demands are not addressed by June 20, an indefinite sit-in demonstration will commence at the iconic Jantar Mantar in Delhi. “We will remain until accountability is ensured,” Dipke stated, as reported by PTI. The party positions itself as a “political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth,” reflecting a focus on addressing issues that resonate with younger generations.
The protests come in the wake of significant controversies in the education sector, particularly following the cancellation of the undergraduate National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), which is crucial for medical college admissions. This cancellation was prompted by serious allegations of a paper leak, sparking outrage among students and educational stakeholders. Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding irregularities in the Class 12 examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as well as the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exams aimed at recruiting government personnel.
The movement’s protests are set to kick off in Pune on Thursday, with additional demonstrations planned for Lucknow on Friday. Other cities joining the wave of dissent include Amritsar, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Hyderabad. Dipke has urged parents to support their children in voicing their grievances against what he terms the “tyranny and flawed policies of the government.”
The Cockroach Janta Party’s initiative highlights a growing frustration among the youth regarding the perceived inefficiencies and lack of transparency in the education system. As competitive exams continue to be a pivotal gateway for numerous career opportunities, the stakes are particularly high for students and job seekers. The ongoing protests may serve as a pivotal moment, galvanizing widespread support for reform and accountability in the Indian education sector.
