The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took decisive action over the weekend by destroying 564 litres of milk during inspections in Mumbai. This operation is part of a broader initiative aimed at enforcing food safety regulations across the state, ensuring that consumers are protected from substandard food products.
In the latest inspections, seven dairies in the city were implicated in violations of food safety standards. Among these establishments, Sainath Dairy & Farsan Mart, Maharana Dairy, and Agasti Milk Agency, all located in Mankhurd, faced scrutiny, along with Yadav Dairy and Shakti Dairy in Govandi, Rahul Milk Centre in Mahim, and Sagar Milk Centre in Antop Hill. The action reflects the FDA’s commitment to clamp down on non-compliance in the food sector, especially in the bustling metropolis of Mumbai.
Moreover, the FDA also suspended the licenses of seven food establishments for various infractions. Violations included unhygienic kitchen conditions, inadequate drainage systems, improper food storage practices, and the use of unauthorized food coloring. The food establishments affected by these penalties included notable names such as Ottoman Cafe in Andheri, Chacha Eagle Kulfi Falooda in Jogeshwari, and Bharat Canteen in Andheri, among others. These actions underscore the FDA’s relentless pursuit of food safety across the region.
In a larger context, the FDA’s enforcement operations throughout Maharashtra yielded significant results, with officials seizing over 43.5 tonnes of food products worth an estimated ₹1.5 crore. This comprehensive crackdown also included the destruction and confiscation of 719.2 litres of milk and ghee, further emphasizing the urgency of maintaining high food safety standards.
The drive represents an important step towards safeguarding public health and ensuring that consumers are not exposed to unsafe food products. As awareness grows around food safety issues, the FDA’s ongoing efforts highlight the critical role of regulatory bodies in maintaining the integrity of the food supply chain.
