Government Restricts Telegram Access Ahead of NEET UG Re-Exam Amid Allegations of Paper Leaks

The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has placed temporary restrictions on the popular messaging platform Telegram until June 22, a day following the rescheduled re-examination of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET UG), which is overseen by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This decision comes after serious allegations concerning integrity breaches related to the examination process.

In addition to access limitations, the ministry has mandated that Telegram disable its message-editing function until June 30. This action was triggered by claims from the NTA, which suggested that the editing feature was exploited to create false evidence of a paper leak concerning national examinations. The agency stated that this restriction is crucial to maintaining the transparency and credibility of the examination process.

The NEET UG, a pivotal examination for aspiring medical students in India, was originally held on May 3 but faced cancellation due to allegations of a paper leak. Such incidents have raised significant concerns over the security and fairness of the examination system in the country.
