Odisha Medical Exam Controversy: Question Paper Shared on WhatsApp During Test

In a troubling development for the Odisha postgraduate medical examinations, a question paper was reportedly circulated on WhatsApp minutes after the test commenced, leading to concerns about examination integrity. The incident, which occurred during the general surgery theory examination for the 2023-’26 batch, has prompted the Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) to initiate an internal investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to reports, the questioning paper was shared from the MKCG Medical College and Hospital located in Berhampur shortly after it was distributed to the candidates on Monday. The situation came to light when a student enrolled at a private medical college in Bhubaneswar received the paper and informed the authorities, raising alarms over the potential breach of exam protocols.

In response to the controversy, Vice Chancellor of OUHS, Manas Ranjan Sahoo, held a virtual meeting with the principals of medical colleges involved in the examination process. During the discussions, he emphasized the need for enhanced security measures to be implemented for the remainder of the examinations to prevent future incidents. The principal of MKCG Medical College, Harekrushna Dalai, also addressed the unfolding situation, asserting that the incident should not be classified as a leak. He stated, “If the question paper had been released before it was distributed to the students, we could categorize it as a leak. However, that was not the case here.”
