India Slips to 157th Position in 2026 World Press Freedom Index Amid Growing Concerns

India has been placed at the 157th position out of 180 countries in the 2026 World Press Freedom Index, according to the latest report from the media watchdog Reporters Sans Frontières, also known as Reporters Without Borders. This ranking marks a decline from last year’s 151st position, further emphasizing the challenges faced by journalists and media organizations in the country.

The report highlights that India remains categorized within the ‘very serious’ zone concerning press freedom, reflecting a troubling trend in the treatment of the media.
