Delhi Police Takes Action Against Social Media Posts Targeting PM Modi Amid Youth Protests

The Delhi Police have recently issued directives to major social media platforms, demanding the removal of posts deemed abusive towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This action comes in the wake of ongoing youth protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party, which have garnered significant attention across the nation.

According to a report from The Indian Express, anonymous sources within the police department revealed that notices were sent to three prominent social media platforms, instructing them to delete specific posts that the police’s monitoring team had flagged as objectionable. The scrutiny has intensified, with the police identifying around 450 social media accounts believed to be circulating misleading deepfake videos and AI-generated content aimed at discrediting the Prime Minister during the demonstrations.

These protests, which erupted recently, were primarily fueled by demands for the resignation of Education Minister Pradhan, following allegations of irregularities in competitive examination processes. Notably, the unrest surged after the police forcibly removed activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on a hunger strike for three weeks. This incident sparked outrage, leading thousands to rally in Delhi on July 20, culminating in a violent confrontation with law enforcement.

During the protests, demonstrators attempted to march towards Parliament but faced a harsh response from the police, who employed lathis, tear gas shells, and pellet guns to disperse the crowds. This brutal crackdown not only resulted in numerous injuries among protesters but also stoked anger and frustration, further galvanizing the movement across various states in India.
