Cockroach Janta Party Ends Protest After Government Agrees to Demands

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) announced on Saturday that it would be terminating its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, following successful negotiations with the Union government. This decision comes in the wake of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, which was a significant development in the ongoing agitation. The CJP claims that all its demands have been met, prompting the organization to call off its nationwide protest immediately.

Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka conveyed the message to demonstrators, urging them to return home peacefully. The CJP had been advocating for various issues, including maximum compensation for families affected by suicides linked to the NEET paper leak. Until Pradhan’s resignation, the group had maintained pressure on the government, insisting on further action regarding their demands, which included the withdrawal of police cases against protesters and accountability for the police’s heavy-handed approach during the protests.

In a statement following the resignation, Ranka highlighted the group’s initial reluctance to withdraw, as they were awaiting further commitments from the government regarding their remaining demands. However, successful discussions later in the day led to a change in the CJP’s stance. Ranka emphasized that although the agitation is being called off, they would keep the public informed about any future strategies or issues that may arise.

Another spokesperson, Saurav Das, expressed that the decision to end the protest is taken in “good faith,” with the expectation that the government will fulfill its commitments within the established timelines. The CJP’s protest had gained significant traction in recent weeks, drawing attention to the plight of NEET aspirants and their families, especially in light of the tragic incidents that highlighted the emotional toll of educational pressures in India.
