In a shocking incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, four personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) lost their lives after being shot by a fellow officer, identified as head constable Avdesh Kumar Singh. The incident reportedly occurred following a heated argument and has sent ripples of shock through the security community.
The tragic event took place at the Sewa Hydel-II power project, where all the deceased were stationed. According to reports, the confrontation arose over Singh’s repeated decision to bring his young child to the workplace, which had raised concerns among his colleagues and superiors.
Sources indicate that the situation escalated when Singh’s actions drew the attention of the company commander, Ankit Kumar Pandey, prompting a confrontation. An unnamed police officer involved in the investigation revealed that Singh and his wife, who also serves in the CISF, worked different shifts at the same project. This arrangement allowed them to bring their toddler to the site, with one parent handing over the child to the other at the beginning of their respective shifts.
On the day of the incident, a complaint was made regarding the presence of Singh’s child at the work site, which led to a confrontation with his superiors. The argument that ensued took a deadly turn when Singh allegedly opened fire on his colleagues, resulting in the deaths of sub-inspector Lakshman Singh, and constables Sanjeev Kumar and Muhammad Rafiq, in addition to Pandey.
Following the incident, Singh was apprehended by authorities, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the precise circumstances that led to this tragic event. The incident raises serious questions about workplace protocol and the psychological well-being of security personnel, particularly in high-stress environments such as those in Jammu and Kashmir. The CISF has extended condolences to the families of the deceased, who served with dedication.
