Kolkata, September 5: Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee visited the Mother House, the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, on September 5 to pay tribute to Mother Teresa on her death anniversary.
September 5 marks the death anniversary of Mother Teresa, who passed away in Kolkata in 1997. Her tomb is located at the Mother House. According to official information from the Missionaries of Charity, the building has been closely associated with Mother Teresa and her charitable work since 1953.
During her visit, Mamata Banerjee met the Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity, Sister Mary Joseph M.C. The occasion highlighted Mother Teresa’s legacy of serving the poor, sick and vulnerable and her enduring connection with Kolkata.
Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata in 1950. The organisation continues to work for people in need, including the sick, poor, homeless and abandoned.
September 5 is also observed around the world as the International Day of Charity, recognising the importance of humanitarian work and compassion.
