Priyanka Gandhi Slams PM Modi Over Youth Protest Violence: Calls for Compassion Over Camera Focus

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has launched a scathing critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, specifically targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the recent police violence against youth protests. During a parliamentary debate on the 2026 Public Examinations Prevention of Unfair Means Amendment Bill, she urged the Prime Minister to shift his focus from the ‘camera angle’ to the ‘heart’s angle’, emphasizing the need for empathy towards the youth.

Her remarks come in the wake of widespread protests by students across the nation, sparked by allegations of corruption and irregularities in competitive examinations. Just days before, PM Modi had released a video message on social media promising stringent measures against instances of paper leaks, which have become a significant concern for students and job aspirants alike.

Vadra questioned the rationale behind the government’s aggressive response to peaceful demonstrations, asking who authorized the use of force, including batons, tear gas, and pellet guns, against the protesting students. “The entire nation, not just Congress, is demanding to know the justification for deploying such heavy-handed tactics against our youth,” she stated, while also wondering if the government considered the students as threats to national security.

The Congress MP also highlighted a troubling trend over the past decade, revealing that there have been 152 reported paper leaks affecting millions of students, yet none of the alleged perpetrators from the so-called ‘paper leak mafia’ have faced justice. This raises serious questions regarding the effectiveness of the government’s measures to safeguard the integrity of examination processes.

Gandhi’s comments reflect a broader narrative of discontent among the youth in India, who feel marginalized by government policies and responses to their grievances.
