Fast-Track Court Delays NEET Paper Leak Case Hearing Over CBI Lawyer’s Absence

The inaugural proceedings of the NEET paper leak case in a newly established fast-track court were postponed on Monday due to the absence of a lawyer representing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This lack of representation was notably raised during the session when the judge was set to consider bail applications for two individuals implicated in the case.

As the hearing unfolded, the defense counsel informed the court of his prior commitments in another courtroom and expressed his inability to await the CBI lawyer’s arrival. Consequently, the bench decided to reschedule the matter to August 3. The presiding judge emphasized the need for the director of prosecution to ensure that a public prosecutor is present for the next hearing.

This postponement comes just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the establishment of fast-track courts aimed at expediting legal proceedings and bringing swift justice to those involved in paper leak scandals. This decision was announced amid widespread protests by the youth across the nation, which highlighted concerns over alleged malpractice in competitive examinations.

In a rapid response to the growing unrest, both the Delhi High Court and the Bombay High Court swiftly designated special fast-track courts to handle cases related to question paper leaks and other irregularities, signaling a strong stance against such offenses.

The adjournment of the NEET proceedings has triggered a wave of criticism from opposition parties, who have raised questions regarding the government’s effectiveness in tackling educational fraud. The situation has ignited debates about the credibility of the examination system and the urgent need for reforms to restore public confidence.
