Violence Erupts in Jehanabad as Bihar Police Open Fire on Paper Leak Protesters

In a shocking turn of events, protests in Jehanabad, Bihar, against alleged irregularities in competitive examinations escalated into violence on Thursday, prompting police to open fire. Eyewitnesses and social media reports indicate that the situation became chaotic as demonstrators clashed with law enforcement, leading to significant unrest in the area.

A video shared by the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation depicted police personnel not only firing shots into the air but also engaging in stone-throwing towards the protesters. Reports suggest that police fired between 30 to 35 rounds during the confrontations. Kumar Parvez, a member of the CPI (ML), stated that several individuals sustained injuries and were subsequently hospitalized, although he did not disclose the exact number of those affected.

The unrest reportedly began after protesters vandalized the entry gate of the district magistrate’s residence, leading to a heightened police response. Parvez noted that clashes intensified as some demonstrators hurled stones at law enforcement officials. In the wake of these events, police confirmed that over 100 individuals had been apprehended for their involvement in the disturbances.

The police issued a statement denouncing the actions of certain groups they described as “anti-social elements and outside miscreants,” claiming these individuals were responsible for attempts to damage public property, including the district magistrate’s residence and roadside railings. Tensions have been mounting in Bihar’s educational landscape, with many students expressing their grievances over perceived corruption and unfair practices in examination processes.
