Tragedy Strikes as Building Collapse in Rohini Claims One Life, Several Trapped

A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon in Rohini, North-West Delhi, where an under-construction building collapsed, resulting in the death of one person and leaving several others feared trapped beneath the rubble.

The four-storey structure, located near a municipal corporation school in Sector 16, collapsed around 4:20 PM. Initial reports indicate that Ram Kishore, a 42-year-old motorcyclist, was fatally injured when debris fell on him during the collapse. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival, according to sources.

Emergency services, including the Delhi Police, fire department, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), quickly mobilized to the site to commence rescue operations. As the situation developed, it was reported that at least five construction workers were likely trapped inside the fallen building. Among the survivors, two workers, Ravi and Saddham, were rescued and taken to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital for treatment. Saddham has sustained serious injuries, including fractures to his pelvis and arm.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashank Jaiswal provided updates on the ongoing rescue operations, revealing that rescuers had successfully established contact with one of the trapped individuals, offering him water and oxygen while working to extract him from the debris. “We are making every effort to reach the others who are still trapped and hope to rescue them as soon as possible,” Jaiswal added. Meanwhile, in a precautionary measure, authorities have evacuated nearby buildings to ensure the safety of residents in the vicinity.

This tragic event raises concerns about the safety standards at construction sites, particularly in densely populated urban areas. With the rapid pace of development in cities like Delhi, ensuring the structural integrity of buildings under construction is paramount.
