Hafiz Saeed Indicted in Pahalgam Terror Attack Chargesheet by NIA

The chief of the banned terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed, has been implicated in a new chargesheet concerning the Pahalgam terror attack that took place in April 2025. This significant development comes as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a supplementary chargesheet in front of a special court in Jammu on Monday. The NIA has charged Saeed not only in his personal capacity but also in his role as the leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliated group, The Resistance Front.

The charges against Saeed include serious allegations under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). As per the NIA’s statement, he is accused of engaging in activities tantamount to waging war against India, as well as conspiring from abroad to execute these attacks. The inclusion of Saeed’s name in the latest chargesheet follows the accumulation of substantial evidence linking him to the operational dynamics of the April 2025 attack, which the agency characterizes as part of a broader conspiracy orchestrated from Pakistan.

In the initial chargesheet submitted in December 2025, the NIA identified seven individuals, including Sajid Jatt, a Pakistani handler associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and The Resistance Front. This supplementary chargesheet serves to strengthen the previous findings, presenting a more comprehensive picture of the mechanisms that were allegedly put in place to plan and carry out the attack in the picturesque Pahalgam region, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir.

Moreover, the NIA has also recorded the names of three Pakistani terrorists who were killed in an operation by Indian security forces, known as Operation Mahadev, on July 28. The deceased terrorists, identified as Faisal Jatt alias Suleman, further underscore the international dimension of the threat posed by these groups, which continue to operate with impunity across the border.

This development reflects ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to combat terrorism and highlights the complex geopolitical tensions that characterize the region.
