Badrinath Shrine Donation Misappropriation Claims Prompt Inquiry Amidst Recent Controversies

The Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee has launched an inquiry into allegations of financial misappropriation concerning donations at the Badrinath shrine in Uttarakhand. This decision, announced on Friday, comes in the wake of recent claims of embezzlement linked to the Ram temple in Ayodhya, which has raised broader concerns about financial integrity within religious institutions.

Hemant Dwivedi, the chairperson of the temple committee, confirmed that all personnel involved in the donation counting process have been issued show-cause notices. This step is aimed at addressing the allegations head-on and ensuring transparency in the temple’s financial dealings. The inquiry was sparked by allegations made by Bhairav Sena, a Dehradun-based organization, which accused temple officials of embezzling funds. They claimed on social media that a personal assistant to Dwivedi was implicated in the alleged wrongdoing.

However, Dwivedi refuted these claims, stating that he does not have a personal secretary. He clarified that the individual referred to in the allegations is merely a regular employee of the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee. This assertion raises questions about the reliability of the information brought forward by Bhairav Sena and emphasizes the need for a thorough investigation.

The Chief Executive Officer of the temple committee, Sohan Singh Rangad, also commented on the situation, revealing that surveillance footage from the temple premises was reviewed but did not yield any conclusive evidence of misconduct. This lack of definitive proof highlights the complexity of the situation and the importance of a comprehensive inquiry to ascertain the truth behind the allegations.

In a related development, the Uttar Pradesh government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged embezzlement at the Ayodhya Ram temple. This was initiated at the request of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which oversees the temple’s management. The SIT is expected to submit its final report in the coming week, indicating that scrutiny over donation management in religious institutions is becoming a significant concern across the country.
