Bukhman International Booker Prize: Cash Award Doubles to £100,000 with New Sponsorship

The renowned International Booker Prize has reached a significant milestone by celebrating its ten-year anniversary, and it has now made an exciting announcement regarding the future of the award. Thanks to a new partnership with Bukhman Philanthropies, the prize will not only receive enhanced funding but also a new title: the Bukhman International Booker Prize. This sponsorship promises to bolster the prize’s prestige and impact in the literary world.

In a remarkable change, the cash award for the winning entry will double from £50,000 to a whopping £100,000. This total will be shared equally between the author and their translator(s), highlighting the essential role of translation in making literature accessible across languages. Additionally, each shortlisted work will continue to receive a prize of £5,000, with $2,500 designated for both the author and the translator, ensuring that all participants are recognized for their contributions.

Bukhman Philanthropies was co-founded by Daria and Dmitri Bukhman, who are also the founders of the successful mobile gaming company Playrix. Their commitment to supporting the arts and literature is evident in this generous sponsorship, which reflects a growing trend of corporate philanthropy in the cultural sector.

The jury for the 2027 edition of the prize has also been revealed. Esteemed writer Katie Kitamura will chair the judging panel, which includes translator and scholar Patrick McGuinness, filmmaker and author Caleb Azumah Nelson, novelist Olga Ravn, and acclaimed actor/producer Tessa Thompson. This diverse panel is expected to bring a wealth of experience and insight to the judging process.

The timeline for the 2027 Bukhman International Booker Prize is already set, with the longlist of approximately 12 to 13 titles scheduled to be announced on March 17, 2027. The shortlist will follow shortly on April 15, 2027, culminating in the announcement of the winning book at a ceremony in May 2027. This structured timeline emphasizes the prize’s commitment to celebrating international literature and fostering cross-cultural dialogue.
