Over 100 Citizens from India and Pakistan Call for Dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir

In a significant move towards fostering peace between India and Pakistan, over 100 distinguished individuals from both nations have penned an open letter to Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif. Their appeal includes a call for the restoration of full diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Islamabad, the reinstatement of high commissioners in both capitals, and the resumption of normal visa services for citizens traveling between the two countries.

Diplomatic ties took a severe hit following India’s revocation of special status for Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, a move that was met with significant backlash from Pakistan. Moreover, the situation escalated further when India suspended all visa services for Pakistani citizens on April 27, 2025, in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 fatalities. Following this, Pakistan reciprocated by halting visas issued to Indian nationals under the SAARC exemption scheme.
