Ayodhya Bar Association Declines to Defend Accused in Ram Temple Donation Misappropriation Case

The Ayodhya Bar Association has officially opted not to represent the individuals accused in the alleged misappropriation of donations designated for the Ram temple in Ayodhya. This decision, announced on Monday, has raised eyebrows and intensified discussions regarding the integrity of the donation process for the revered temple.

Kalika Prasad Mishra, the president of the bar association, emphasized the seriousness of the situation by warning that any lawyer who chooses to defend the accused could face a substantial penalty of Rs 5 lakh. This stern stance reflects the association’s commitment to addressing the gravity of the allegations surrounding the temple’s funding, which holds significant cultural and religious importance for many Indians.

The case came to light after a first information report (FIR) was filed against eight individuals, all of whom have been taken into custody. The accused include Ramashankar Yadav, known as Tinnu, Anukalp Mishra, Avinash Shukla, Karunesh Pandey, Manish Yadav, Lavkush Mishra, Ramashankar Mishra, and Subhash Srivastava. Mishra noted that a committee composed of 15 to 20 members has been established to facilitate the prosecution’s case, demonstrating a proactive approach to ensuring accountability.

Amid growing public concern, Mishra pointed out that there are calls for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to step in and conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter. He articulated the frustrations of the community, stating, “People are questioning the point of making offerings to the deity when a small group can potentially misappropriate these funds.” His comments resonate with many devotees who feel disillusioned by the situation.

Furthermore, Mishra raised concerns regarding the accountability of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, suggesting that such alleged misappropriation could not occur without their awareness. This assertion adds another layer to the ongoing discourse surrounding the safeguarding of donations, which are paramount in maintaining the sanctity and construction of the temple.
