Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test Postponed Amid Alleged Question Paper Leak

The Maharashtra government has announced the postponement of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, originally scheduled for Sunday, following reports of a possible leak of the question paper. This significant decision came on Saturday, just a day before the examination, affecting approximately 4.28 lakh candidates who were set to take the test across 1,028 centers statewide.

According to a statement from the Maharashtra State Council of Examination, the authorities had implemented strict security protocols to prevent any irregularities, particularly in light of previous issues surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) earlier this year. However, police sources revealed that they received tips about unauthorized individuals in Thane’s Bhiwandi city having access to parts of the TET question paper.

Responding swiftly to the information, the Bhiwandi Police conducted a raid that resulted in the seizure of documents believed to contain exam questions. Verification by officials from the examination council confirmed that some of the content matched the actual eligibility test questions. In light of these findings, a criminal case has been initiated, and an investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the leak.

The Maharashtra State Examination Council has assured candidates that a new date for the TET will be announced soon through its official website. This incident has garnered widespread attention as it coincides with ongoing protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators have been rallying since June 20, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for various grievances related to education policies.

With the postponement of the TET, many aspiring teachers are left anxious about their future prospects, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced in the education sector.
