Hoshiarpur Enters Quarter-finals with Third Straight Win in Senior Women’s Cricket/ Dr. Raman Ghai
Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha /June 11 Hoshiarpur sealed a place in the quarter-finals of the inter-district Senior Women’s Cricket Tournament organized by the Punjab Cricket Association after recording a convincing five-wicket victory over Ropar (Rupnagar). HDCA secretary Dr. Raman Ghai said the win was Hoshiarpur’s third successive victory, earning the side four points.
In the 50-over contest, Ropar, having won the toss and elected to bat, were bowled out for just 69 in 27.4 overs as Hoshiarpur’s bowlers dominated. Chahalpreet Kaur top-scored for Ropar with 21, while Aishmeen Kaur contributed 12. For Hoshiarpur, Anjali Seemar and Manreet Olakh claimed two wickets each, and Vanshika, Dhruvika Seth and Sanjana picked up one wicket apiece.
Chasing a target of 70, Hoshiarpur reached the total in 18.5 overs for the loss of five wickets, winning by five wickets. Shivani was the mainstay with a vital unbeaten 30, while Niranka made 10 and Annaya Thakur 11. From Ropar’s bowling attack, Harleen Kaur took three wickets and Guneet Kaur dismissed two Hoshiarpur batters.
Dr. Ghai added that Hoshiarpur will play their final league match against Nawanshahr in Nawanshahr on June 13. HDCA president Dr. Daljeet Khela congratulated the team on reaching the quarter-finals and wished them well for the remaining games. The team also received congratulations from HDCA joint secretary Vivek Sahni, Thakur Yograj, Jatinder Sood, Subhash Sharma, Amit Thakur and other office-bearers.
Coaches and support staff — head coach Davinder Kaur Kalyan, junior coach Nikita Kumari, district coach Daljeet Singh, Praveen Shintu, Pankaj Pinka, Dinesh Sharma and Ashok Sharma — extended their best wishes ahead of the quarter-finals. Expressing his happiness at the team’s progress, Dr. Raman Ghai said Hoshiarpur women’s cricket has a bright future and praised the players’ hard work and dedication. He predicted that soon one of these players could find a place in the Women’s IPL or the national side, and urged aspiring cricketers to train at the HDCA centre to build a strong future in the sport. He concluded by wishing the team success in the quarter-finals.
