Delhi High Court Denies Request to Reopen CBSE Class 12 Re-evaluation Portal

The Delhi High Court declined a petition on Friday to reopen the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) re-evaluation and verification portal for Class 12 answer sheets, emphasizing that such an action would hinder the timely release of final examination results. A vacation bench comprised of Justices Neena Bansal Krishna and Madhu Jain expressed their reluctance to interfere with the ongoing evaluation process, which has been a matter of concern for many students.

The re-evaluation portal was operational for a limited period from June 2 to June 7, and the court’s ruling comes in the wake of a petition filed by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress. The NSUI raised allegations pertaining to irregularities in the newly implemented On-Screen Marking system used by the CBSE. Students have reported several inconsistencies, claiming that the scanned answer sheets uploaded by the board did not correspond with their actual handwriting, suggesting potential mismatches in answer sheet evaluations.

Concerns surrounding the assessment process have escalated as numerous students encountered issues while seeking re-evaluation. Complaints of portal malfunctions, delays in payment confirmations, and instances where students were unexpectedly charged excess fees due to technical problems have compounded their frustrations. These allegations highlight the vulnerabilities in the current evaluation system, leading to a growing call for accountability from the education authorities.

Adding to the controversy, cybersecurity researcher Nisarga Adhikary took to social media to reveal that the OnMark portal, utilized for the evaluation process, was publicly accessible. His analysis suggested that the portal contained security flaws that could potentially jeopardize the accounts of examiners. This revelation has intensified scrutiny around the CBSE’s operational protocols and raised questions about the integrity of the assessment process.

The NSUI’s petition aims to address these pressing issues, advocating for fairness and transparency in the evaluation of students’ answer sheets. As the CBSE navigates the complex landscape of modern examination protocols, the call for reform and vigilance in educational assessment continues to resonate among students and stakeholders alike.
