Tragic Incident in Kanpur: BEd Aspirants Fall into Sewage Drain as Slab Collapses

In a concerning incident during a significant examination, approximately 20 candidates preparing for the Uttar Pradesh Bachelor of Education (BEd) Joint Entrance Examination experienced a harrowing fall into a sewage drain after an old slab covering the drain collapsed. The event occurred near the HN Mishra PG College in MacRobertganj on Sunday morning, prompting immediate attention from local authorities.

According to police reports, the unfortunate mishap happened when the aspirants were gathered at a local shop in the Nagar Nigam market area, trying to make photocopies of essential documents needed for their exam. The urgency of the situation escalated as students were informed at the last minute that they needed photocopies of their Aadhaar cards. This last-minute requirement led to a rush at nearby shops, where many students were trying to finalize their preparations just moments before the examination.

Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal confirmed that four individuals suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident. Eyewitnesses noted that while some were physically impacted, many others were left with soiled clothes and damaged exam-related materials such as admit cards and books. One parent who had accompanied a student also sustained injuries during this chaotic scene.

The Kanpur Nagar Police Commissionerate addressed the situation on social media, stating that while there were no significant casualties, the event highlighted deeper issues regarding the infrastructure surrounding examination centers. This incident raised concerns about the safety measures in place for students, especially during crucial times like examinations when stress levels are already high.
