In a significant political shift, Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, has announced his resignation, citing adherence to the directives of the Congress leadership. During a press conference, he stated, “I am making way for a new chief minister,” thereby indicating a potential leadership change within the state. Siddaramaiah has formally submitted his resignation to the governor’s office, which is expected to be processed shortly. Despite being offered a position in the Rajya Sabha, he expressed his commitment to remaining active in state politics.
Speculation is rife regarding Siddaramaiah’s successor, with D.K. Shivakumar emerging as the frontrunner to take over the chief ministerial role. This transition comes at a time when Karnataka is navigating various challenges, and the Congress party appears keen to consolidate its leadership to address pressing issues in the state.
In a separate but notable development, the Union Education Ministry has taken full responsibility for the discrepancies reported in the evaluation process conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Minister Dharmendra Pradhan acknowledged the criticisms surrounding the On-Screen Marking system that has been employed for the assessment of Class 12 answer sheets. Following numerous complaints from students who alleged that the scanned copies of their answer sheets did not correspond with their actual handwriting, the evaluation process has come under intense scrutiny.
Pradhan assured the public that strict measures would be enacted against individuals found culpable for any deliberate misconduct in this evaluation system. He defended the On-Screen Marking method, emphasizing its global acceptance and its design as a “student-centric” approach aimed at enhancing transparency in the assessment framework.
In recent weeks, concerns have escalated as many students reported inconsistencies and irregularities in their evaluation results. The issue has sparked widespread anxiety among students and parents alike, leading to calls for reforms in the examination system. Pradhan’s comments reflect a commitment to reform and accountability, although the effectiveness of the measures taken remains to be seen.
