CBI Finds No Evidence Against Suspect in 2024 NEET-UG Paper Leak Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reported on Thursday that it has not uncovered any evidence implicating Sanjeev Mukhiya, the primary suspect in the alleged leak of the 2024 National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) question paper. Mukhiya had previously been arrested by Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit in April 2023, following a protracted 11-month evasion of the authorities.

The case gained significant attention after reports of irregularities surfaced post the NEET-UG examination conducted on May 5, 2024, with results announced on June 4, 2024. Allegations surrounding the theft and dissemination of question papers prompted the transfer of the case to the CBI on June 23, 2024. Since then, multiple chargesheets have been filed against 45 other individuals, although no charges have been brought against Mukhiya.

Initially, Mukhiya’s involvement was suspected due to his prior connections with other exam-related scams. However, as the CBI delved deeper into the investigation, they found a lack of definitive evidence linking him to the NEET paper leak specifically. The agency clarified that while there were suspicions due to his history, the absence of corroborating evidence meant that charges could not be substantiated in his case.

The situation highlights the broader issues of integrity and transparency in the examination process for medical admissions in India. With NEET being a pivotal exam for aspiring medical students, any allegations of misconduct can have far-reaching implications.
