Government Refutes Claims of Misleading Statements by Rajnath Singh on Operation Sindoor

The Union government has firmly rebutted social media claims alleging that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh misled Parliament regarding the casualties of Indian soldiers during Operation Sindoor. On Saturday, the Ministry of Defence described these online posts as “deliberately misleading and factually incorrect,” asserting that they misrepresented Singh’s statements made during a parliamentary session on July 28.

The controversy erupted after the government published the names of six military personnel, including five from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Air Force, who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor. This was the first instance where the identities of these soldiers were disclosed publicly, further highlighting their sacrifices. The announcement followed a formal acknowledgment of their deaths, which had been recognized earlier and awarded gallantry medals in August 2025.

The Ministry of Defence emphasized that the social media posts in question had selectively quoted a specific part of Singh’s speech, thereby distorting his message. This selective quoting falsely suggested that the minister had stated that no Indian soldiers had died in the operation. In response to these claims, the Ministry addressed the misinformation, underlining the importance of accurately representing statements made in Parliament.

Operation Sindoor, a significant military initiative, has been a topic of discussion in various political circles, especially following the recent publication of the Roll of Honour on the National War Memorial website.
