A former editor from Kolkata has raised concerns regarding the removal of his name from the electoral roll in the Ballygunge constituency, which has also led to complications in renewing his passport. The individual, whose name has been omitted from the rolls, attributes this to the inability of the SIR to locate both his name and that of his deceased father, a noted Gandhian and retired professor who passed away in 2016. He is among approximately 2.7 million residents in West Bengal who have been excluded based on what authorities term “logical discrepancies.” Despite presenting his matriculation certificate as proof of identity, the authorities have not provided any clear reasoning for the omission, leading him to file an appeal before a tribunal set up in adherence to the directives from the Supreme Court.
