Sonia Gandhi Criticizes India’s Inaction on Gaza Conflict, Calls for Moral Responsibility

In a recent column published in The Indian Express, Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress Party, expressed grave concerns regarding the Indian government’s silence on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. She argued that the Narendra Modi administration’s lack of response to what she termed “genocidal actions” by Israel cannot be justified either rationally or morally.

The context of her remarks stems from the escalated violence that erupted in October 2023, following a series of attacks by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people in southern Israel. Gandhi emphasized that many Western countries, such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, have recently recognized Palestinian statehood after years of neglecting the issue.

Highlighting India’s position, she lamented that the country remains a solitary voice of silence amidst a chorus of international condemnation aimed at the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. Gandhi’s comments come at a time when global discourse is increasingly focusing on the rights of Palestinians, urging nations to adopt a more proactive stance on international human rights.

As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, the call for India to take a clearer stance grows louder.
