Anjana Om Kashyap Sues YouTuber Khan Sir for Defamation Over Controversial Remarks

In a significant legal development, Anjana Om Kashyap, a prominent anchor and managing editor at Aaj Tak, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Faizal Khan, widely recognized as Khan Sir, who is a popular educator and YouTuber from Bihar. The suit, filed in the Delhi High Court, also involves TV Today Network, the parent company of Aaj Tak, as a co-plaintiff. Kashyap is seeking damages amounting to ₹2 crore, alleging that Khan made defamatory statements about her following her criticisms of online educators.

The conflict arose during a segment where Kashyap expressed her concerns regarding online teaching platforms in relation to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for aspiring medical students. She accused certain online educators of being fraudulent and claimed they often weigh in on subjects beyond their expertise. Following her remarks, Khan responded with a video where he accused Kashyap of disseminating false information and labeled her as a “broker” for government interests.

This dispute comes against a backdrop of ongoing controversies surrounding the NEET-UG exam and the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate admissions. The examination process has faced criticism due to allegations of serious mismanagement, particularly after the NEET was abruptly canceled on May 12 amid fresh claims of a paper leak. This cancellation impacted over 22 lakh candidates who had participated in the exam conducted on May 3.

Furthermore, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also been under scrutiny for its On-Screen Marking evaluation process for Class 12 answer sheets. Recent weeks have seen numerous complaints from students regarding irregularities and glitches in the evaluation system, exacerbating the tension in the educational landscape.

The ongoing legal battle between Kashyap and Khan reflects broader issues within the Indian education system, where the credibility of online educators is increasingly questioned.
