CBI Takes Action in 2026 NEET-UG Paper Leak Case, Five Arrested

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant strides in its investigation into the alleged paper leak for the 2026 undergraduate National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). On Wednesday, the agency apprehended five individuals, conducting searches across multiple locations in India. This latest development comes on the heels of the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) decision to cancel the NEET-UG examination held on May 3, following serious allegations of examination irregularities.

According to CBI officials, the arrests were part of a swift response after filing a first information report (FIR) regarding the case on Tuesday. Among those detained are three individuals from Jaipur, identified as brothers Dinesh Biwal and Mangilal Biwal, along with Mangilal’s son Vikas Biwal. Additionally, Yash Yadav was apprehended in Gurugram, while Shubham Khairnar was arrested in Nashik. The CBI spokesperson indicated that these arrests reflect the agency’s commitment to addressing corruption in educational assessments.

The NTA, which is responsible for overseeing the NEET-UG, had to cancel the examination due to allegations that a “guess paper” circulated prior to the test contained questions that closely mirrored those on the actual exam. Investigations led by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group uncovered that this so-called guess paper included around 410 questions, raising concerns about its authenticity and the integrity of the examination process.

As a response to the unfolding scandal, the NTA has announced plans to conduct a fresh examination, with dates to be communicated shortly. This decision aims to restore public confidence in the NEET-UG process, which is crucial for aspiring medical students across the nation. The examination serves as a gateway to prestigious undergraduate medical courses, making its integrity paramount.

The ongoing investigation highlights the broader issue of examination malpractices in India, as authorities grapple with ensuring fairness and transparency in competitive assessments.
