In a striking development, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of protecting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This statement came during the party’s first press conference following the release of its leaders from detention. The leaders were apprehended shortly after arriving at Delhi Airport, where they intended to protest against Kumar’s alleged mishandling of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.
Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka had called for Kumar’s resignation, citing serious irregularities in the electoral process, which they believe jeopardize the integrity of upcoming elections. A Delhi court later ordered their release on the condition that they maintain peace for one year, highlighting the tense political climate surrounding the electoral commission.
During the press conference, Saurav Das asserted that the government was resorting to oppressive measures to stifle peaceful dissent, suggesting that the nation was on the brink of a “civil-war-like situation.” He described the government’s actions as a declaration of war against its own citizens, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in electoral governance.
Das specifically condemned the government’s stance towards journalists covering the protests, calling it an attempt to intimidate the media. “The state has lost its way, all to shield Gyanesh Kumar, who he labeled as ‘traitor number one.’ The government fears that an awakened youth will demand answers, leading them to respond with violence,” he stated.
In a rallying cry to the youth of India, Das encouraged them to organize peaceful protests in their respective cities, emphasizing that civil engagement is vital for democracy. The CJP stated that they are committed to ensuring that voices calling for electoral reforms are heard and respected.
The CJP, along with various student organizations linked to left-wing ideologies, has positioned itself at the forefront of these protests, vowing to challenge perceived injustices perpetuated by the current government. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the implications of these protests could significantly impact voter sentiment and the overall electoral process in India.
