Tragic Assault: Manipuri Musician Loses Life Over Noise Dispute in Delhi

In a shocking incident that underscores the rising tensions in urban communities, a Manipuri musician was brutally murdered in Delhi following a dispute over noise outside his residence. The victim, identified as Chongtham Vikram Singh, met with a tragic fate after confronting a group of delivery personnel and dhaba workers who were reportedly creating a ruckus late Sunday night.

Singh, who was known for his contributions to the music scene, particularly as the lead guitarist for the Manipuri rock band Phoenix in the 1980s, stepped out of his home in Kilokari village to request the group to lower their volume. In a matter of moments, the situation escalated into violence, leading to Singh sustaining severe injuries. According to reports, his family rushed him to the Holy Family Hospital located in Okhla, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Monday.

The medical team confirmed that Singh’s death was due to haemorrhagic shock resulting from blunt force trauma. Following the incident, Delhi police acted swiftly, apprehending seven individuals involved in the assault, along with a minor. The arrested men have been named as Bharat Kumar, Pramod, Ramzan Khan, Deepanshu, Mohan Vishwakarma, Vijay, and Mannu.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Vineet Kumar visited Singh’s family and community members, assuring them that justice would be served promptly and according to the law. The incident has raised alarms among local residents, emphasizing the need for better community dialogue and conflict resolution strategies in densely populated urban areas.

Singh, who was a trailblazer in introducing rock music to Manipur, later played with another band called Eastern Dark, further cementing his legacy within the music community. His untimely death serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of unchecked public disorder and the fragility of life amid escalating urban noise disputes.
