Valley of Words Book Awards 2026 Celebrates Literary Excellence with Winners Announced

The Valley of Words Book Awards for 2026 has unveiled its list of winners in a grand announcement that highlights exceptional literary talent across eight distinct categories. This prestigious event celebrates both Hindi and English literature, showcasing the diversity and richness of Indian writing today.

The winners will be honored at the upcoming Valley of Words Literature and Arts Festival, which is scheduled to take place in Dehradun on November 28 and 29. Each awarded author will receive a cash prize of ₹1 lakh along with a trophy to recognize their outstanding contributions to literature. The selection process involved a rigorous shortlisting of five books in each category, ensuring a competitive and fair evaluation.

Among the notable winners of this year, Ghazala Wahab’s “The Hindi Heartland: A Study” claimed the prize for English nonfiction, while Rahul Pandita’s novel “Our Friends in Good Houses” won in the English fiction category. In the realm of translations, Anamika’s work “Sita’s Veil,” translated from Hindi by Nishtha Gautam, garnered recognition, showcasing the importance of translation in bridging literary cultures.

Young adult literature was highlighted by Huthuka Sumi’s “Giants,” a compelling read for the younger audience, while Samina Mishra’s charming children’s book, “The Night Sky,” captivated the imagination of young readers. In Hindi literature, Malini Awasthi’s “Chandan Kiwad” won the nonfiction prize, while the fiction category saw victory for Manisha Kulshrestha’s “Trimaya.” Translating works into Hindi also shone through with Rohini’s translation of Samantha Harvey’s “Orbital,” enriching the Hindi literary space.

This celebration of literature not only showcases the talents of individual authors but also reflects the broader narrative of Indian literature’s evolution.
