Trinamool Congress Office in Kolkata Vandalised, TMC Blames BJP Supporters

A Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in Kolkata was reportedly vandalised early Thursday morning, igniting a political firestorm in West Bengal. Abhishek Banerjee, the TMC General Secretary, alleged that the attack was carried out by supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), branding them as “hooligans”.

The incident took place at approximately 4:30 AM at the party’s Camac Street office. Banerjee took to social media to share videos depicting the aftermath of the vandalism, which included broken furniture, shattered glass, and damaged electronic equipment. He asserted that armed individuals had invaded the premises, assaulted TMC members, seized their mobile phones, and caused extensive damage.

Describing the event as a “shameful attack on the rule of law,” Banerjee condemned the violence and called for the resignation of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. He stated, “If this is how the Opposition is treated in West Bengal—through violence and intimidation—then the chief minister lacks the moral authority to remain in office.” His comments reflect the ongoing tensions between the TMC and the BJP in the politically charged atmosphere of the state.

In the footage shared by Banerjee, masked assailants could be seen carrying away televisions and other valuables from the office, raising concerns about security and safety for political entities in the area. The TMC has called upon law enforcement to investigate the incident thoroughly and to hold those responsible accountable.

The altercation underscores the increasing hostilities between the TMC and BJP, particularly in the wake of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, where the BJP made significant gains against the TMC, leading to heightened political rivalry. Political analysts suggest that incidents like these could further exacerbate divisions in an already polarized political landscape.
