Tragic Aftermath: Ten Bodies Recovered from Gandak River Amid Nepal Floods

In a grim development following the devastating flash floods in Nepal, authorities have recovered ten bodies from the Gandak river, which flows through the districts of Maharajganj and Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh. These recoveries occurred over the past two days, as reported by local news sources. The Gandak river, known as the Narayani in Nepal, originates in the Himalayan region of Nepal and travels down into India before merging with the Ganges.

All ten deceased individuals, who are yet to be identified, are believed to be adults from Nepal, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The bodies are currently held at mortuaries in both Maharajganj and Kushinagar, where they will remain for a duration of 72 hours. Maharajganj Additional District Magistrate Prashant Kumar highlighted that if no relatives come forward to claim the bodies within this timeframe, further procedures will be initiated in line with governmental protocols.

The floods, which hit Nepal’s Rasuwa district located approximately 120 kilometers north of the capital Kathmandu, have resulted in a tragic toll. As of Saturday, the death count has risen to 616, with more than 2,400 people reported missing. The disaster management authority of Nepal has stated that over 4,400 individuals have been successfully rescued from affected areas. In a distressing turn of events, the floods were unexpected, particularly since the locality experienced no prior rainfall.
