BJP Leadership Reshuffle: Smriti Irani Takes Charge Amid Rahul Gandhi’s Legal Woes

In a significant reshuffle, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revamped its national leadership structure. Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been appointed as one of the eight national general secretaries, while Amit Malviya has been relieved from his position as the chief of the party’s social media wing. Furthermore, Union minister Piyush Goyal will take over from Rajesh Agarwal as the party’s treasurer, indicating a strategic shift in leadership roles as the BJP prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.

In a separate yet high-profile legal development, the Supreme Court of India has intervened in a case concerning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The apex court has instructed the Allahabad High Court to postpone its hearings regarding allegations of disproportionate assets against Gandhi, who has been accused by a BJP worker of possessing assets not commensurate with his declared income.

The Supreme Court’s directive came after it noted that the High Court seemed to have issued its orders without adequately allowing Gandhi a chance to present his side. The bench, led by the Chief Justice, emphasized the importance of due process, which has been a cornerstone of judicial proceedings in India. From the outset, the High Court had tasked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate with verifying the claims, but the Supreme Court has now halted any further actions by these agencies, ensuring that the case is handled with the necessary judicial scrutiny.
