Policeman Fatally Shot in Terror Attack in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir

In a tragic incident on Wednesday, a policeman lost his life in a suspected terror attack in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The attack occurred at approximately 12:30 PM on the Anantnag-Kokernag road, where the officer was stationed to ensure security during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.

The slain officer has been identified as Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, hailing from Budgam. Following the attack, he was rushed to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. The incident has heightened security measures in Anantnag town, particularly in light of the Amarnath Yatra, which has faced significant disruptions due to adverse weather conditions over the past four days.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the act, expressing his condolences to Qureshi’s family via social media. He emphasized that such heinous acts will not go unpunished, asserting the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. Sinha also mentioned that he had spoken with the Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat, to assess the situation following this alarming attack.
