Kolkata: Political tension erupted on Friday evening over the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Metropolitan District party office. According to allegations, rebel TMC MLA Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay, along with several leaders and supporters, entered the party office, took control of the premises, locked the main gate, and left the location.
Shortly afterward, leaders from another faction of the Trinamool Congress, including Kunal Ghosh, Madan Mitra, and several others, arrived at the office. According to party sources, they held discussions to assess the situation and decide on the party’s next course of action.
Meanwhile, police personnel were deployed at the spot, and security around the party office was strengthened. Kunal Ghosh alleged that the police had effectively taken charge of protecting the party office.
Ghosh further claimed that the incident had the indirect backing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He alleged, “Those who have no independent political existence and cannot win elections without Mamata Banerjee’s image and the party symbol are now resorting to occupying the party office.”
On the other hand, the rebel faction has not yet issued a detailed official response to these allegations.
The incident has also triggered various political comments involving state minister Firhad Hakim. However, the authenticity of these remarks could not be independently verified.
The episode has intensified the political atmosphere in West Bengal. Political observers are now closely watching how the dispute over the control of the party office unfolds in the coming days.
