Tragic Monsoon Toll: Ten Lives Lost in Arunachal Pradesh as Assam Faces Infrastructure Damage

The state disaster management department reported that these fatalities occurred as a result of landslides, lightning strikes, and severe storms throughout June. Additionally, two women remain missing in Keyi Panyor district after being swept away by flash floods since June 24.

In a concerning video that surfaced from Siji in Lower Siang, a motorcyclist was seen perilously navigating a landslide, narrowly escaping as the earth shifted beneath him and blocked the Siji River.

Meanwhile, Assam has not been spared from the monsoon’s fury. The rains have hit 96 villages across six districts, including Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur, and Kokrajhar. Fortunately, there have been no reports of fatalities or missing persons in Assam thus far. However, the heavy rains have led to infrastructural challenges, notably the collapse of a railway bridge over the Simen River in Dhemaji district, raising alarm about the safety of residents and travelers alike.

Authorities are on high alert, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting continued rainfall across northern India, raising concerns of further flooding and landslides.
