The Indian National Congress has raised serious allegations against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, claiming that he is at the center of what they describe as an ‘engine of loot’ operating at full throttle in the state. This assertion follows a report by The Indian Express detailing extensive land acquisitions by Yadav, his family, and affiliated real estate companies since he assumed office in December 2023.
According to the report, the Yadav family has acquired approximately 168 acres of land, primarily in regions poised to benefit from upcoming infrastructure developments. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has vocally criticized the chief minister on social media, claiming, “The chief minister of the state himself has become the mastermind of this loot.” This statement underscores the opposition’s perspective that the government is exploiting its position for personal gain, particularly in the context of significant public resources being allocated to infrastructure projects.
Mohan Yadav, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was inaugurated as the chief minister after the party secured victory in the state assembly elections. His administration’s policies and land deals are now under scrutiny, with Congress alleging irregularities that suggest a conflict of interest. Ramesh further insinuated that internal conflicts within the BJP might have prompted the exposure of these dealings, suggesting that rival factions within the party are battling for power and influence.
The timeline of the acquisitions is notable; records indicate that Yadav and his family purchased 137 plots valued at around Rs 45 crore from the day he took office up until December 2025. Many of these properties are strategically situated near infrastructure projects announced recently, raising questions about the motivations behind such rapid acquisitions. Critics argue that this not only reflects a potential misuse of authority but also poses ethical concerns regarding the transparency of land transactions by public officials.
This controversy highlights a broader narrative within Indian politics, where allegations of corruption and nepotism frequently surface, especially in relation to land and resource management. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the BJP will address these accusations and whether an inquiry will be initiated to investigate the legitimacy of the land transactions in question.
