In a strong diplomatic response, India has outrightly rejected the recent remarks concerning Jammu and Kashmir made by China and Pakistan in a joint statement released following a high-level meeting. The statement emerged after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif completed a three-day visit to China, during which he discussed various issues, including the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The joint statement, issued on Monday, indicated that Pakistan had briefed China on the ongoing developments in Jammu and Kashmir. It also included a reference from Beijing, suggesting that the historical dispute requires a peaceful and proper resolution, in line with the United Nations Charter, UN Security Council resolutions, and existing bilateral agreements.
In response, India’s Ministry of External Affairs reiterated its long-standing viewpoint, emphasizing that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are integral parts of India. The ministry firmly stated, “The Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh have been, are, and will always remain integral and inalienable parts of India.” This strong stance underlines New Delhi’s commitment to asserting its territorial sovereignty and integrity.
Furthermore, the Indian government dismissed any references to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) made in the joint statement, arguing that several projects associated with the CPEC infringe upon India’s sovereign territory. The foreign ministry expressed a resolute opposition to any attempts by external nations to validate or support Pakistan’s unlawful and forcible occupation of these Indian territories, which directly impacts India’s territorial integrity.
India’s position has been consistently communicated to both Pakistan and China, asserting that no other nation possesses the authority to comment on its internal matters. This incident underscores the delicate dynamics of regional geopolitics, especially regarding the historically contentious issue of Jammu and Kashmir, a subject that remains a significant point of contention between India, Pakistan, and China.
