Demolition of AIMIM Corporator Matin Patel’s Properties Unfolds Amid Controversy

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation took significant action on Wednesday by demolishing several allegedly illegal structures associated with Matin Patel, an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) corporator. This decision comes amidst claims that one of these properties served as a shelter for Nida Khan, a suspended employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), in the Kausar Baug area.

Approximately 100 civic officials and police personnel were mobilized to carry out the demolition, utilizing heavy machinery and teams specifically trained for anti-encroachment operations. The municipal body had previously issued notices to Patel regarding unauthorized construction at his residence and his office in the vicinity, indicating a serious approach towards enforcement of building regulations.

According to reports, Mayor Sameer Rajurkar confirmed that Patel was given a three-day notice period to respond to the allegations. If the response is deemed unsatisfactory, further legal actions could be initiated. Rajurkar also warned that Patel could face disqualification from his position if found guilty of the construction violations.

In a bid to challenge the demolition, Patel sought legal recourse, requesting the court for a stay on the action. However, his plea was denied, further complicating his situation. Meanwhile, Patel’s family has argued for more time to respond, claiming that the three-day notice was insufficient for a proper legal reply.

This incident highlights the broader concerns regarding illegal constructions across urban areas in India, where local governments are increasingly pressured to enforce building regulations effectively.
