Telangana CM Orders Investigation into Sexual Assault Case Involving Union Minister’s Son

Telangana’s Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, has instructed the state’s police chief to promptly investigate a case filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against Bandi Bhagirath, the son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar. This decision comes in light of a complaint lodged at the Pet Basheerabad police station on Friday, raising concerns over the supposed delay in addressing the matter.

During a recent meeting with Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand, CM Reddy vocally expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the lag in action, urging for swift and thorough investigations. The police chief explained that the delay was primarily due to the law enforcement agency being engaged in extensive security measures ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Hyderabad, during which he inaugurated several development initiatives and launched significant infrastructure projects.

On Sunday, while Modi was addressing a rally for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bandi Sanjay Kumar was present, which brought additional media attention to the ongoing situation. The allegations against Bhagirath center around claims made by the parents of a 17-year-old girl who assert that he had befriended their daughter under the pretense of marriage, subsequently leading to an alleged sexual assault at a farmhouse in Moinabad on December 31.

This case has garnered significant public interest, particularly given the high-profile connections surrounding the individuals involved. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, a prominent figure in Indian politics, serves as a Union Minister and the BJP’s state president in Telangana, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.
