Goa Police Detain Two Activists for Supporting Umar Khalid During Protest

In a notable incident in Goa’s capital, Panaji, two individuals were taken into custody by local police on Saturday for expressing their support for incarcerated activist Umar Khalid. This occurred during a demonstration advocating for justice related to alleged discrepancies in competitive examination processes, echoing similar protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Umar Khalid has been imprisoned since September 2020, facing charges linked to the communal violence that erupted in North East Delhi in February 2020. This violent clash, which was largely centered around the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), resulted in the tragic deaths of 53 individuals, with many more suffering injuries. During the protest held at Azad Maidan in Panaji, a man named Danish drew attention by displaying a poster advocating for Khalid’s release.
