Delhi Sees Intense Protests Demanding Resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

In a significant display of dissent, thousands of protesters gathered in New Delhi on Monday, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The demonstration, which took place at Jantar Mantar, escalated into a confrontation with security forces, who deployed tear gas and resorted to lathi charges to disperse the crowd.

Protesters, some arriving from as far as Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, expressed their dissatisfaction with Pradhan’s handling of competitive examinations, claiming mismanagement has hindered opportunities for countless students. Reports indicate that many protesters were injured during the lathi charge, with one student, aged 16, questioning whether he was wrong to wish for a prosperous future for India. The political group organizing the protest, known as the Cockroach Janta Party, condemned the police’s actions, labeling the day a “black day for democracy.” Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike, criticized the aggressive measures used against peaceful protesters. He vowed to continue his fast until youth leaders are given a platform to voice their concerns and effectively address the issues at hand.
