In a major move to improve the quality of technical education, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has ordered the closure of 58 engineering and technical colleges for the 2025–26 academic session. The council has also discontinued more than 950 engineering and technical courses across the country.
According to AICTE, the decision was taken after reviewing institutions that suffered from consistently low student enrolment, inadequate infrastructure, shortage of qualified faculty, and failure to comply with prescribed academic standards. Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have reported the highest number of institutional closures.
Students already enrolled in these institutions will be allowed to complete their education, but no fresh admissions will be permitted under the progressive closure policy.
Education experts believe the move is aimed at improving the overall quality of technical education and ensuring better academic standards and career opportunities for future engineering students.
देश में तकनीकी शिक्षा की गुणवत्ता और बुनियादी ढांचे की समीक्षा के बाद अखिल भारतीय तकनीकी शिक्षा परिषद (AICTE) ने बड़ा फैसला लिया है। शैक्षणिक सत्र 2025-26 में देशभर के 58 इंजीनियरिंग और तकनीकी कॉलेजों में नए प्रवेश बंद कर दिए गए हैं। इसके साथ ही 950 से अधिक इंजीनियरिंग और तकनीकी पाठ्यक्रम भी बंद कर दिए गए हैं।
AICTE के अनुसार, लगातार कम दाखिले, योग्य शिक्षकों की कमी, कमजोर आधारभूत संरचना और निर्धारित मानकों को पूरा न कर पाने के कारण यह कार्रवाई की गई है। सबसे अधिक कॉलेज उत्तर प्रदेश और महाराष्ट्र में बंद किए गए हैं।
हालांकि, जिन छात्रों ने पहले से इन संस्थानों में प्रवेश ले रखा है, उन्हें अपनी पढ़ाई पूरी करने का अवसर मिलेगा। केवल नए छात्रों के प्रवेश पर रोक लगाई गई है।
विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि इस कदम से देश में तकनीकी शिक्षा की गुणवत्ता में सुधार होगा और छात्रों को बेहतर शिक्षा तथा रोजगार के अवसर मिलेंगे।
