China’s Rooftop ‘Artificial Rain’ System Sparks Global Debate Amid Rising Heat

As extreme heatwaves continue to affect many parts of the world, China has introduced an innovative rooftop artificial rain (mist cooling) system to help reduce outdoor temperatures. The technology releases ultra-fine water droplets from rooftops, creating a mist-like effect that cools the surrounding environment and provides relief from intense heat.

The innovation has generated mixed reactions online. Critics argue that at a time when water scarcity is becoming a major global concern, using water for cooling purposes could be seen as an unnecessary waste of a precious resource.

Supporters, however, believe that many of these systems rely on recycled or treated water, allowing the same water to be reused multiple times. If that is the case, they argue, the environmental impact and water wastage would be significantly lower.
