A controversy has emerged surrounding the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, where a State Bank of India (SBI) manager has come under scrutiny amidst allegations of theft involving significant donations made to the temple. The temple, which is a site of immense religious significance for Hindus, has been the subject of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry initiated by the Uttar Pradesh government following claims that large sums of money and valuable jewelry contributed by devotees have disappeared under the temple trust’s watch.
The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, established after the Supreme Court’s 2019 ruling that awarded the site of the former Babri Masjid to Hindu worshippers, is tasked with managing the temple’s finances and donations. Recently, whispers of mismanagement and loss have surfaced, raising questions about the integrity of those in charge of overseeing the temple’s financial operations.
One prominent figure now facing criticism is Anil Mishra, a trustee of the temple and a known member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Mishra, who was responsible for managing the temple’s donations and overseeing the counting of offerings, has reportedly resigned from his position amidst the unfolding scandal, although official acceptance of his resignation remains pending.
In an intriguing twist, it has been discovered that Addikya Raghu Ram Sagar, an SBI official, resides as a tenant in Mishra’s home located in the Amaniganj area of Faizabad. This connection has raised eyebrows given the ongoing investigation into the allegations surrounding the temple’s financial trust. Sagar was questioned by the SIT as part of their inquiry into the theft claims, indicating a potential overlap between the bank’s operations and the temple’s financial management.
As the investigation unfolds, the temple trust’s reputation hangs in the balance. With the Ram Temple serving as a symbol of faith for millions, ensuring transparency and accountability in its financial dealings will be imperative. Questions regarding the safeguarding of devotees’ contributions and the overall management of the trust have sparked wider discussions on governance and oversight in religious institutions across the country. The outcome of this investigation could potentially reshape public trust in such organizations in India.
