Barpeta Witnesses a Landmark Step in Educational Inclusion as Seva Bharati Launches Free NEET Coaching Programme

In a significant step towards making medical education more accessible, Seva Bharati Purvanchal, Barpeta District Committee has launched Barpeta’s first completely free coaching programme for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). The initiative is aimed at helping academically promising students from economically weaker families pursue their dream of becoming doctors without the burden of expensive coaching fees.

The programme was inaugurated at Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Barpeta, by Deepak Kumar Das, MLA of the 24 No. Barpeta (SC) Legislative Assembly Constituency. Speaking at the event, he described the initiative as a meaningful example of how community organisations can contribute to strengthening educational opportunities for deserving students.

With the cost of professional entrance coaching continuing to rise, many talented students are unable to access the guidance needed to compete in examinations like NEET. The new initiative seeks to bridge this gap by offering structured coaching, mentorship and academic support completely free of cost, ensuring that financial limitations do not stand in the way of merit.

The coaching programme has been introduced for students preparing for NEET-2027. Besides regular classroom teaching, it will focus on strengthening conceptual understanding, improving problem-solving skills and helping students develop effective examination strategies through continuous mentoring.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Dr. Kamal Krishna Das, President of Seva Bharati Purvanchal, Barpeta District Committee, said the organisation had observed that many bright students in the district could not afford private coaching despite having the potential to succeed. He said the initiative was launched to ensure that deserving students receive quality guidance regardless of their financial background.

According to Dr. Das, the first batch comprises 10 students selected through a screening test. Classes will be held three days a week, with 12 offline sessions every month, supported by online classes to maintain regular academic engagement.

The programme will be conducted by experienced teachers, while students who have successfully qualified NEET in previous years will mentor participants by sharing their preparation strategies, study methods and examination experience. To maintain personalised attention, the organisers have decided to limit each batch to around 15–20 students.

MLA Deepak Kumar Das noted that NEET is among India’s most competitive entrance examinations and requires consistent preparation along with proper academic guidance. He expressed hope that such an initiative would enable talented students from Barpeta to compete confidently for admission to medical colleges.

Referring to the difficulties many aspirants face, particularly in Physics, he said expert mentoring and conceptual clarity often make the difference between success and failure in competitive examinations. He added that Seva Bharati’s effort would help students prepare in a more focused and systematic manner.

The launch of the programme has been welcomed by students, parents and members of the local community, many of whom described it as a timely initiative that could transform educational opportunities for deserving youth. Several attendees also expressed hope that similar community-led programmes would be introduced in other parts of the district and across Assam.

By introducing Barpeta’s first completely free NEET coaching programme, Seva Bharati Purvanchal has taken an important step towards expanding educational access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. If sustained and scaled up, the initiative could serve as a model for community-driven educational support across Assam, demonstrating how voluntary organisations can play a meaningful role in nurturing talent and widening access to professional education.
