In a tragic incident early on Friday morning, three members of a family lost their lives in a fire that erupted in a five-storey residential building located in the Govindpuri area of southeast Delhi. The fire was reported to authorities at approximately 2:31 AM, and emergency services quickly responded to the scene.
According to police reports, the deceased have been identified as Guddi, aged 50, her son Pankaj, 28, and daughter Soni, 20. All three resided on the building’s third floor. The fire also left two other family members injured, including Guddi’s 18-year-old daughter Moni and her 70-year-old mother, both of whom are currently receiving treatment for critical injuries.
Authorities have revealed that a preliminary investigation points towards an electrical short circuit on the ground floor as the likely cause of the fire. This incident has not only resulted in the loss of lives but has also caused damage to property, including three scooters, two motorcycles, and a bicycle parked in the ground-floor area, which were engulfed in flames.
The Delhi Fire Service reported that a total of eight occupants were rescued from the building and swiftly taken to nearby medical facilities, including Safdarjung Hospital and the AIIMS Trauma Centre, for treatment. Their conditions remain under observation as the investigation continues.
This devastating fire comes just over a week after another tragic incident in which 22 people lost their lives in a fire that broke out in a building in Malviya Nagar, south Delhi. Such incidents raise serious concerns about fire safety regulations in residential areas, highlighting the urgent need for improved safety measures to protect lives and property.
