Jaijon-Mahilpur and Nangal-Garhshankar Routes: Tippers Allowed Only Between 7 pm and 7 am, Orders District Magistrate
Hoshiarpur/ Daljeet Ajnoha /May 24
— Using powers under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defence Code, 2023, District Magistrate Ashika Jain has ordered that tippers/trucks carrying mining material on the Jaijon–Mahilpur road and the Nangal–Garhshankar road will be permitted to ply only between 7 pm and 7 am. Movement of such vehicles on these roads outside the specified hours is prohibited.
The administration said it received reports that tippers and trucks transporting mining material on the Mahilpur and Nangal–Garhshankar stretches in Hoshiarpur district have been causing road accidents, resulting in loss of life and property. Prioritizing public safety, the district government decided to regulate the movement of these heavy vehicles in a time-bound manner.
In line with the orders, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Garhshankar, will ensure that traffic police conduct speed checks on tippers and trucks. The Regional Transport Authority, Hoshiarpur, will carry out checks and take necessary action against overloading and other violations. The Executive Engineer, Drainage-cum-District Mining Officer, Hoshiarpur, will ensure 24×7 monitoring at interstate checkposts and use weighing equipment (quadrant/scale) at checkposts to detect and act against overloaded tippers.
These orders will remain in force until July 20, 2026.
